Runners Set For Busy Weekend

4 NOV2011

With dark nights having arrived and winter pending the Scottish running calendar starts to look thin, however enthusiasts are set for a weekend of running fireworks as Dundee, Stranraer, Strathaven and Fort William host events over November 5/6.

The action starts tomorrow at Stranraer with the annual 10k road race. Last year's event attracted over 200 people, with Jon Fletcher of Border Harriers AC finishing first in 32:32. The 27th Templeton 10 Road Race, organised by Dundee Roadrunners, will take place early on Sunday morning, with around 300 runners expected to tackle the undulating course on the outskirts of the city.

A big contingent will be heading to Strathaven's Whitelee Wind Farm on Sunday for the Run With The Wind 10k. Organised by Stratheven Striders, the 2010 race saw Stuart Gibson head a 350 strong running field with an impressive time of 31:32.

The final race of the day takes place at midday in Fort William with the popular Eddie's half marathon. The route across the highlands provides stunning scenery and is thought to be one of Scotland's best kept running secrets.

As ever it will be a busy weekend for parkrun (5K) as an estimated 800 runners line-up for 9.30am (Saturday) events at Glasgow, Edinburgh, Strathclyde Park, Falkirk, Aberdeen and Inverness.
