Decade Dawns For Borders Run

28 OCT2011

Jedburgh Running Festival

This Sunday (October 30) will see the Jedburgh Half-Marathon celebrate its 10th year as one of the top running events in southern Scotland. Organisers are confident the milestone race will be able to match the strong turnout for last year's competition in which 1,000 runners took part in the 10k and half-marathon events.

Speaking to scottishrunningguide.com, race organiser John Henderson predicted the anniversary celebrations will make for a great festive feel to the day: "The numbers registering for the event have been keeping up with the 2010 levels. We are looking for another record year that will be rounded off with post-race celebrations."

Last year saw Jonathan Carpenter win with a time of 1:12:20, whilst Jennifer MacLean was the first lady home in 1:24:25. Robert Turner won the 10k race in 34.28 and Gillian Carr finished in 41.42.

This year's race sees a slight restructuring to 2010 with runners departing from the bottom of the High Street directly onto the Bongate. John feels this modification, plus a more thorough staggered start, will help the race to run more smoothly. The minor changes will facilitate the stronger runners by allowing them to progress through the pack far more easily."

Prizes awarded to the top two male and females in each age category, whilst the three highest placed runners will be given a free entry into the half-marathon event. In addition, the event's main sponsors Run-4-It, will be offering a number a spot prizes throughout the day.

There are still spaces left for the Jedburgh running festival, for more information please visit the race website.
