Haile Gebrselassie will face strong competition in his pursuit of five titles at the Bupa Great Manchester Run with confirmation that current world record holder Patrick Makau will be competing in the event on May 20.

Next Thursday (May 17) runners will come from all over Scotland and further afield to take part in the first event of this year's Polaroid Eyewear 10K road race series at Helensburgh. Organisers of the Granite Challenge on Saturday, June 16 have opened the event to individuals and pairs. The north-east multi-event starts at Fraserburgh on the North Sea and follows the 40 miles of the Formatine and Buchan Way - an old rural railway line - to Aberdeen.

Cash Incentive For Female Club Runners

Scots Impress In Danish Half

Kilbarchan AAC's Hayley Haining topped a series of strong Scottish performances at the Lillebaelt International half marathon on Saturday (May 5) by finishing first in the women's competition. In the men's field, Ross Houston and Andy Douglas also secured podium positions, with the Scots runners finishing in second and third place respectively.

This Bank Holiday Monday (May 7) sees business as usual for the Deep RiverRock Belfast City marathon with over 20,000 runners expected on the streets of the city today. The 31st staging of the event looks set to be one of the most competitive with a number of international athletes vying for victory, and as colourful as usual with the huge relay turnout.

Last weekend saw a rain soaked Yorkshire Dales host the Three Peaks Fell Race in the village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale. But the inclement weather didn't dampen the spirits of the 750 runners who took part in the event. Among those runners was Scots pair, Joe Symonds and Sarah O'Neil, who took home the top prizes. Both runners were from the fittingly-titled Hunter's Bog Trotters.

Gorilla-suited runners pass the Tower of London

Saturday, September 22 will see one of the most dramatic running events of 2012 when an anticipated 800 'gorillas' will make their way around the streets of central London. The Great Gorilla Run will attract runners from around the world dressed-up in gorilla suits and aiming to complete a 7k course to raise funds for the Gorilla Organization.

Tales Of Adventure Shaping Up

Glasgow-born Don Lennox, best known for rowing the Atlantic and running 3,100 miles across the United States, will join Martin Myers and Stuart Doyle.
