Scots Top In 10K

15 MAY2012

Freya Murray celebrates her victory

While one of the lasting impressions of the 2012 Ignis Asset Management Women's 10K will be the stormy weather that dampened many of the runners post-race celebrations, the organisers' emphasis on home-based talent culminated in a Scottish athlete winning the event for the first time this century. Freya Murray, fresh from an incredible performance at London marathon, secured this year's title with a time of 33:36, just 5 seconds off the Scottish course record set in 2009 by Hayley Haining. Perhaps just as encouraging was the fact there were strong performances from the top three athletes, with fellow Scots Susan Partridge (34:05) taking second and Jennifer MacLean (35:58) third.

November Date For Southside Six

12 MAY2012

South Side Six logo

One of the most popular introductions to the Scottish racing calendar in 2011 was the 16 mile Southside Six. The Glasgow event gets it name from its route through six of the most scenic parks on the south side of the city. The Southside Six was a sell-out last year - in fact the organisers had to extend the original entry limit - and the 2012 renewal on Sunday, November 4 is expected to attract similar demand.

Weather No Obstacle For Womens 10k

11 MAY2012

Start to Women's 10k in 2011

On Thursday, the Facebook page for the Ignis Asset Management Women's 10k quoted Sir Ranulph Fiennes: "Girls, there is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing." An ominous foreboding perhaps, but the 12,000 women expected to head to Glasgow this Sunday may have to adopt some of the adventurer's steely mentality with rain and strong winds predicted.
