The Corrieyairack Challenge
Scotland’s toughest mountain duathlon, the Corrieyairack Challenge, celebrates its 25th anniversary on Saturday 1 July. You are invited to join intrepid adventurers Dougie Vipond and Sean McFarlane who will both be taking part in this historic Challenge, featuring Scotland’s highest mountain road (2526ft).
General Wade’s historic Mountain Pass was built by hand in 1731 and successfully defended by Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745.
You can choose to walk, walk-cycle, run-cycle or mountain bike around the course, which includes an 11.5-mile hill section from Culachy to Melgarve via the Corrieyairack Pass, and a 38.5-mile road section from Melgarve to Badaguish via Laggan, Kingussie and Insh. Those taking part will also get free weekend camping and showers at Badaguish.
Organisers say: “Enjoy the history, feel great and help raise funds for people with a disability to enjoy an outdoor holiday at Badaguish Cairngorm Outdoor Centre.”
The closing date for entries is 4pm on Friday 23 June. For more information and to enter, go to the event website.
